BookStack 25.05 adds new comment abilities, AVIF image support, and WYSIWYG editor in beta

BookStack version 25.05 introduces a major commenting improvement: users can now visually reference specific parts of a page's content directly within comments by selecting text and using a new popover button. Alongside this, comments can be archived, simplifying the management of ongoing discussions.

Following these interaction updates, BookStack now accepts AVIF images wherever uploads are allowed, allowing contributors to use modern image formats throughout the platform. For sites using OpenID Connect (OIDC) authentication, administrators may now assign user avatars directly from OIDC-provided data, increasing synergy with external identity providers.

BookStack 25.05 adds an API endpoint that supplies key system details. Additionally, the WYSIWYG editor, first introduced in version 24.10, has moved from alpha to beta with a series of fixes and usability enhancements, indicating increased stability and readiness. The release also delivers updated translations, additional minor improvements, and various bug fixes, continuing BookStack’s pattern of steady incremental development.
