BBEdit 15.5 adds workspaces, AI writing tools, FTPS support, text transformations and more
Bare Bones Software has announced the release of BBEdit 15.5, a significant feature update to the most recent version of this professional HTML and text editor for macOS users. BBEdit 15.5 brings a new Workspaces system, enabling users to manage project contexts more efficiently. The update also integrates macOS Writing Tools, providing in-line summarization, proofreading, and composition assistance as part of Apple Intelligence. This allows writers and developers to streamline document editing without leaving the editor.
Following the major workflow additions, BBEdit 15.5 expands its remote editing capabilities with new FTPS support. This update lets users securely edit and deploy remote files using FTP over TLS, addressing needs for enhanced file transfer security. The release also introduces a Strip Diacriticals transformation, which simplifies converting accented or special characters into ASCII. This function can be accessed via menus, Text Factories, or automation scripts, catering to both manual and automated workflows.
Other notable changes include improved Markdown editing, where document headings are now indented to reflect structure and can be folded by level. For users relying on version control, the update refines the integrated Git support with new navigation and function controls. Across the entire application, a wide range of performance optimizations, internal adjustments, and bug fixes aim to deliver a smoother experience for all BBEdit users.
