Adobe launches Project Indigo, a new iPhone camera app with advanced manual controls
Adobe has launched Project Indigo, a new camera app for iPhone that emphasizes manual controls and advanced computational photography techniques. Unlike many mobile cameras, Project Indigo under-exposes more aggressively and captures, aligns, and combines multiple frames to deliver images with reduced noise in shadow areas and better highlight retention. This approach means that users may notice a short delay after pressing the shutter button, as the app processes several images to produce a refined result.
Building on this technical foundation, Project Indigo offers both JPEG and RAW output, enabling flexibility for casual use and advanced editing. The app was designed to integrate smoothly with Adobe’s photography software, including Lightroom mobile, making it well-suited for users with established Adobe workflows.
Expanding its feature set, the app provides two main still photo modes: Photo and Night. By default, the app launches into Photo mode but will suggest switching to Night mode in low-light conditions. Additionally, Adobe highlights that Project Indigo includes some unique photographic experiences not found in other camera apps, including multi-frame super-resolution, pro manual controls, technology previews, and much more.
