Opera launches Neon, an agentic browser with AI chat and automation tools built-in

Opera has unveiled Opera Neon, a browser designed for deep agentic collaboration and automation. Unlike traditional browsers that simply integrate artificial intelligence tools, Neon acts as an autonomous partner, capable of browsing on your behalf and taking direct action based on your intent.

Neon enables users to conduct research, automate complex workflows, and build new projects in collaboration with artificial intelligence agents. In addition to chat, Neon supports hands-on tasks such as developing reports and automating processes. Neon leverages a built-in cloud computer that produces reports and interactive web applications and can directly host them. This allows users to generate and share content seamlessly through the browser environment.

Opera Neon will be offered as a premium, subscription-based product. While global availability is not yet in place, early adopters have the opportunity to join a waitlist to experience the next phase of browser intelligence.

From the announcement: "We’re at the brink of a new web: the agentic web, which we’re calling Web 4o". Because Web 3 non-sense hasn't been enough, we're rolling into the 4.0 version void! Joke aside, local agents are actually slow as Hell (even slower that Opera's "Browser Operator"), I perfectly understand it doesn't want to go that way and adds some cloud computing, but this will be very expensive for Opera to run (since it won't offering a $250 a month subscription). Also, agent are relevant on the few websites they've been trained on, so without many deals with theses website owners (what Opera doesn't seem to have), agents are just big hungry crawlers that will be blocked on mostly all websites. Yep, creating a browser is an hard and boring task. And creating a company on top of it is never more exciting.
