NotebookLM upgrades to Gemini 2.5 Flash as it prepares to launch an Android & iOS app
NotebookLM, Google's AI-driven research and writing assistant, is now powered by Gemini 2.5 Flash. This upgrade marks a significant step forward in the platform's core reasoning capabilities, building on the previous Gemini 2.0 Flash foundation. With Gemini 2.5 Flash, users can expect more comprehensive and nuanced answers, particularly when dealing with complex or multi-step questions that require advanced reasoning.
In addition to the backend improvements, Google is preparing to expand NotebookLM's accessibility beyond its current online format. The service will soon be available as a dedicated app for both Android and iOS devices. Users interested in early access can already pre-register for the Android release via the Google Play Store. On iOS, a listing has gone live on the Apple App Store, featuring a provisional release date of May 20, which corresponds with the kickoff of Google I/O 2025. This signals that mobile support is on the near horizon for NotebookLM, making it more widely accessible to users seeking AI-powered research and writing tools from their smartphones.

I hate to say it, but Google currently has the best AI. It consistently gives me the best answers with the least prompting effort, and it's definitely the best at coding in real life (the Gemini 2.5-pro model).
