TrueNAS 25.04 “Fangtooth” launches with Linux kernel 6.12, unifies SCALE & CORE offerings

TrueNAS has announced the release of its latest version, 25.04, code-named “Fangtooth”. This open source enterprise storage solution, built on OpenZFS, offers significant enhancements for both Community and Enterprise users. Serving as the recommended upgrade path for TrueNAS SCALE 24.10 and CORE 13.x installations, version 25.04 builds upon the foundation of the widely adopted TrueNAS 24.10 “Electric Eel”, known for its integrated Docker support and improved performance over version 13.0.

The new release aims to unify the capabilities of TrueNAS CORE and SCALE into a common Community edition and Enterprise version. Notable features in TrueNAS 25.04 include the Linux kernel 6.12, which provides extended hardware support, fast deduplication, and a 5X acceleration of the RAID-Z expansion process. Additionally, it introduces LXC containers, QEMU/KVM virtualization via Incus “instances”, and configurable IP addresses for newly added apps in the catalog.

TrueNAS Enterprise users will also benefit from enhanced performance, security, and storage improvements with this update.
