KDE team unveils new features and enhancements planned for upcoming KDE Plasma 6.4 release

In the latest edition of This Week in Plasma, the KDE team has provided updates on developments within KDE Plasma and its related applications, such as Discover and System Monitor. The upcoming KDE Plasma 6.4 will introduce several new features, including KRunner's capability to recognize various color codes and display corresponding colors and textual representations. Additionally, the Disks & Devices widget will automatically check newly-connected disks for file system errors and offer corrections.

KDE Plasma 6.3.3 addressed numerous keyboard navigation issues across the platform, enhancing functionality in areas such as the System Tray, Kicker Application Menu widget, and Custom Tiling UI. Spectacle, the screenshot tool, will receive a significant UI update in KDE Plasma 6.4, launching by default into a rectangular region overlay, which users can configure as needed. This allows for flexible screenshot and recording options, including annotations.

The update will also reintroduce the option to hide audio player indicators on Task Manager tasks, along with the ability to conceal audio controls on individual task tooltips. Furthermore, the About This System page will now more accurately display system memory, showing both physical and usable amounts, along with explanations for any discrepancies. The system settings' color picker has also been reverted to a previous, more user-friendly version.

The KDE team continues to focus on various improvements and bug fixes across the platform, enhancing the overall user experience before the KDE Plasma 6.4 release.
