Discord is bringing video ads to mobile users in two months
Beware, Discord users! The popular communication platform has announced plans to expand its video ads, known as Video Quests, to mobile devices. This move marks a significant shift, as the initial pilot for mobile video ads is set to launch in June 2025. The initiative offers advertisers a chance to showcase trailers, make announcements, and highlight premium content to Discord’s player community.
Discord, which was ad-free until March 2024, initially relied on user subscriptions for revenue. Ads were introduced to its desktop and console apps in March 2024, offering users rewards for PC games if they played certain games or watched streams through Discord. This was followed by the introduction of Video Quests, allowing developers to show video ads, such as trailers and announcements for new seasons and downloadable content.
The upcoming mobile ads are designed to be non-intrusive, appearing as a “Quest bar” at the bottom of the screen. Users can dismiss it or tap to open the dedicated Quest tab, where full-screen videos will play only if a user chooses to accept the Quest. For those who prefer an ad-free experience, [there are always alternatives to Discord available].
