Bluesky now lets users upload videos up to 3 minutes long and enhances DM spam filtering
Bluesky has announced the release of version 1.99, introducing several enhancements to its platform. Users can now upload videos up to 3 minutes in length, expanding content possibilities. The update also tackles direct message spam with new tooling and introduces a Chat Requests screen, allowing users to manage conversations from unknown contacts by accepting or rejecting them.
The update streamlines account management by enabling quicker muting of accounts directly from posts via the three-dot menu. Additionally, improvements have been made to the moderation reporting flow and the platform's web layout for tablet-sized screens. Enhanced error reporting during signup is also part of this release.
Furthermore, Bluesky expands its language support with the addition of Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, and Esperanto translations, broadening accessibility for diverse user communities.

This social networking platform distinguishes itself by being deeply filterable both by keyword blocking, but as well from the content perspective with content areas to follow groups of like minded or not like minded as the case maybe. Beyond that you can easily filter your followers as well from your experience with settings. There is a character limitation in place that for the most part keeps the post succinct and importantly you can post media to the site fairly seamlessly at this point as they have caught up in that fashion.
Users have hit a singularity of 30 million users as of Feb 2025 a year after it's general public launch in Feb of 2-24, folks enough to make it an interesting place to both participate in focused topics or follow individual accounts as a number of celebrities and business accounts are now members. BlueSky is a privately-owned for-profit corporation majority owned by CEO Jay Graber. I would take any statement made by a majority share holder and CEO with a grain of salt however as per Wikipedia;
'Funding for operations, as of late 2024, comes primarily from investors and venture capital firms. No advertising is available on the service as of December 2024, and Jay Graber has stated that Bluesky will not "enshittify the network with ads".'
I have been a member for a year and do recommend it!
