Transit now includes contactless payment information and Apple/Google Wallet integration

Transit, the widely-used app for navigating public transportation, has introduced a new update addressing the common question of payment methods. This update allows users to determine if their bus or train accepts contactless credit or debit cards. The app then seamlessly connects to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, facilitating a tap-and-go experience.

This contactless discovery feature is now available in 60 cities worldwide, including major urban centers such as New York, Toronto, Vancouver, Chicago, and Philadelphia. It enables Transit to assist with fare payments on over 50% of transit trips in the US and Canada, and extends to various European cities like Brussels, London, Lisbon, Stockholm, Marseille, and throughout the Netherlands.

The feature operates independently of the specific payment systems used by different transit networks. Additionally, Transit has released a technical guide for transit partners to update their data, ensuring riders have the latest information. This initiative supports the goal of making public transit more accessible and convenient, regardless of location or payment method.
