SuperTux v0.7.0 beta released with revamped worlds, new music and major gameplay additions
The SuperTux team has released the first beta of v0.7.0, marking its most substantial overhaul since Milestone 2. This update delivers a complete visual and auditory refresh, including fully redone worlds, new artwork, newly composed music, and newly built backgrounds and tile sets. Alongside these broad aesthetic improvements, classic enemies like Gold Bomb, Igel, Spidermite, and Ghoul have been entirely revamped.
Following the content refurbishment, core gameplay sees notable changes. Players can now experience improved Tux sliding, rock powerup, crawling, and refined buttjumping mechanics. New elements include Tux dolls, which unlock worlds, an all-new yeti boss fight, a ghost tree, an item pocket, and more.
Complementing these gameplay shifts, the release introduces an overhauled level editor and various quality-of-life improvements for both creators and players. On the technical side, users benefit from enhanced autotile functionality, a comprehensive CMake refactor, Flatpak build support, and a transition to the SimpleSquirrel library, all aiming to improve maintainability and portability.
With such sweeping updates, SuperTux v0.7.0 may present a markedly different experience. However, its core platforming premise remains intact. The project has now entered a feature freeze, so no additional features will be considered until the upcoming stable 0.7.0 release.
