Rocky Linux 10.1 launches with soft reboots, post-quantum cryptography & XFS enhancements
Rocky Linux 10.1 is now available, continuing its commitment to being bug-for-bug compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This release is built on the Linux kernel 6.12 LTS, bringing up-to-date core system stability and hardware support.
Following platform-wide advancements, Rocky Linux 10.1 introduces the systemd soft-reboot function. This allows for userspace-only reboots, which can significantly reduce downtime when applying updates or patches. Building on recent security progress, the distribution now prioritizes post-quantum cryptography over classical algorithms in OpenSSL and has expanded support for post-quantum algorithms to GnuTLS and other libraries, extending protection against future cryptographic threats.
On the storage front, users can now run xfs_scrub on mounted XFS filesystems and shrink XFS volumes with xfs_growfs in certain scenarios, offering improved management and flexibility for administrators.
Addressing developer needs, the release delivers updated stacks, including .NET 10, Node.js 24, OpenJDK 25, Valkey 8, GCC 15, Go 1.24, LLVM 20, and Rust 1.88. These updates provide access to the latest programming language features and performance improvements for application builders targeting enterprise environments.
