Perplexity brings its agentic web browser Comet to Android with voice & other AI features
Perplexity has expanded its agentic browser Comet to Android, bringing an array of smart features to mobile users for the first time. Android users now get access to integrated voice recognition, enabling them to interact directly with the Comet assistant to find information across all open tabs using natural speech.
Adding to this, smart summarization allows users to generate concise overviews of content from multiple open tabs simultaneously, streamlining the research process on mobile devices. For privacy and user experience, Comet on Android incorporates a built-in ad blocker that helps avoid spam and pop-up ads, with optional whitelisting for trusted sites — mirroring capabilities found on the desktop version.
At its core, the browser features an AI assistant designed to block distractions and offer proactive support for diverse tasks, while always maintaining user control. Following these enhancements, Comet further aims to support a wide range of activities—whether for researching, simplifying information, shopping, or learning — allowing users to tailor the browser's AI-driven capabilities to their personal needs.

I wonder how this is going to differentiate itself from the perplexity app. As far as I've seen, comet is just the Perplexity AI, but in its own "browser". Even then, when you look stuff up in comet, it's the same as asking the AI directly for answers, akin to asking chatgpt what the weather is instead of looking it up "on the web".
