Google Translate adds fast and advanced model picker for text translation
Google Translate has introduced a model picker with 'Fast' and 'Advanced' options for text translation. The 'Advanced' mode offers greater accuracy for complex translations and is set as the default, but is available only for select languages. This feature is currently appearing on iOS devices, with no Android rollout confirmed.

I'm curious why this needs some special mode or just certain language. I've already been using Gemini to translate between several languages and the end results seem so good I've stopped using Google Translate completely.
kagi did it first! even then, relegating translation fully to hallucination machines (LLMs) which is what i assume is what they're doing could be a bit dangerous, and if the awfully auto-translated youtube video titles I've been seeing are anything to go by...
