GIMP 3.2 RC1 launches with proper SVG export, improved text editor, and UI enhancements
GIMP 3.2 Release Candidate 1 is now available, marking the next step for this open source image editor. The update brings key improvements for those working with link and vector layers, clarifying Rasterize and Revert Rasterize actions. These enhancements apply to text layers as well, improving control over their state changes.
Focusing on text editing, the new release introduces a more robust on-canvas text editor. Users can now move the editor freely across the screen, and Shift+Ctrl+V allows pasting unformatted text directly — a long-requested addition for design work. While interacting with tools, creators can quickly swap between their current and previous options by pressing Shift+X, supporting faster switches between tools such as the paintbrush and eraser.
On the non-destructive editing front, GIMP 3.2 RC1 updates filter features, enabling adjustment layer simulations through layer groups and targeted masks for refined area control. User interface and experience receive minor updates, complemented by support for exporting SVG and PDF files as real vectors. The release also includes updated file format support, API improvements, security fixes, and a dark mode for the Windows installer.
