Astro 5.16 adds SVG optimization with SVGO, interactive shortcuts and better agent support
Astro 5.16 has been released, bringing new features and enhancements to this web framework for content-centric websites. A focus of this release is experimental support for automatic SVG optimization using SVGO, which streamlines asset management by reducing SVG file sizes while retaining quality.
Building on developer experience improvements, the astro preview command now supports keyboard shortcuts. This allows for more efficient control of the local preview server during development. Meanwhile, as automated coding agents and artificial intelligence tools become more integral to workflows, Astro has updated the astro add command to provide a hint about the --yes flag. This addition clarifies how to bypass interactive prompts, making automation with agents easier.
Following these enhancements, Astro Actions now feature the ActionInputSchema utility type. This utility simplifies the process of extracting and reusing input schemas from action definitions, supporting abstraction and creation of reusable action handlers. Rounding out the update, Astro 5.16 includes additional enhancements and bug fixes that improve overall stability and usability for developers.
