AerynOS 2025.10 update brings KDE Plasma 6.5, GNOME 49, COSMIC beta 3, and GNU libstdc++
AerynOS has released its October update, delivering a series of major package upgrades and performance enhancements. This version runs on the Linux 6.16.12 kernel and introduces updated desktop environments, including KDE Plasma 6.5.1 with KDE Frameworks 6.19 and KDE Gear 25.08.2, GNOME 49.1, and COSMIC Beta3.
Alongside these changes, core packages such as Mesa 25.2.5, LLVM 21.1.4, FFmpeg 8.0, PipeWire 1.4.9, Wine 10.17, Node.js 22.21, Zed code editor 0.206.6, Virt Manager 5.1.0, Bash 5.3.3, Vim 9.1.1829, and systemd 257.10 have all been updated, among others. The KDE Plasma user experience continues to improve, with user feedback highlighting greater performance and fluidity within the environment.
Building on its desktop improvements, AerynOS now expands its GNOME application repository to include Showtime and GNOME Contacts. For COSMIC packaging, the team has shifted to using System76’s repo-release, allowing more timely adoption of updates by avoiding dependency on upstream git tags. In a security-conscious shift, AerynOS reverts to the GNU libstdc++ library for C++ in place of LLVM libcxx.
On the developer side, the boulder tool now detects upstream package licenses and adds them to the autogenerated recipe file, while moss state verify runs selected tasks in parallel. This release also brings improvements in infrastructure stability and adds a moss system-model prototype feature.
