Wine 10.16 adds NTSync fast sync, WoW64 16-bit apps & D3DKMT objects support, and more

Wine 10.16 is now available, enhancing the ability to run Windows applications across POSIX-compliant operating systems, including Linux, macOS, and BSD. This update includes several core feature advancements relevant to compatibility layer users.

Key additions in Wine 10.16 focus on improving synchronization and legacy application support. The release introduces fast synchronization with NTSync, aiming to boost application performance and responsiveness. In addition, Wine now supports running 16-bit applications in Windows-on-Windows 64-bit (WoW64) mode, helping users who rely on older software remain productive on modern hardware.

Following these developments, Wine 10.16 brings initial support for D3DKMT objects. This foundational graphics subsystem emulation widens the range of graphics-related applications that may work under Wine. The update also delivers support for using Windows Metadata (WinMD) files during application execution, which may benefit users and developers relying on Windows Runtime or Universal Windows Platform (UWP) technologies.

Beyond new features, this release addresses 34 bugs impacting various software and games. These fixes aim to improve stability and expand the number of Windows applications that function reliably under Wine.
