OpenAI acquires Sky, a natural language interface for macOS, to boost ChatGPT integration

OpenAI has acquired Software Applications Incorporated, the creators of Sky, in a move to deepen artificial intelligence integration for Mac users. Sky offers a natural language interface for macOS, letting the AI assist with writing, planning, coding, or managing daily tasks. The software understands on-screen content and can take actions using users’ existing applications.

Following this acquisition, OpenAI will incorporate Sky’s advanced macOS integration and product expertise directly into ChatGPT. All members of the Sky team are set to join OpenAI, supporting the effort to bring AI features into the core tools used in daily workflows. OpenAI’s Nick Turley states that the goal is to evolve ChatGPT beyond responding to prompts, so it can help users accomplish tasks within their regular applications. Sky’s integration is viewed as a key accelerator for this strategy.

Sky was originally designed to make computers more customizable and intuitive, employing a floating AI assistant to support creativity and organization. The former Sky team aims to scale this vision in partnership with OpenAI.
