NordVPN open-sources Linux GUI and updates Snap package with new GUI for easier installs
NordVPN has open-sourced its graphical user interface for Linux, marking a major change for transparency and user engagement on the platform. Following several years with an open-source command line interface, the company now allows users to access, study, modify, and contribute to both the GUI and CLI components.
Expanding on these changes, the updated Snap package now includes the new open-source GUI. This move lets users across any Linux distribution that supports snapd install NordVPN with a single command. It also guarantees that the app stays current with automatic updates provided through Snap.
These steps were taken to provide Linux users with greater transparency, accessibility, and confidence when using NordVPN's desktop tools. While these interfaces are now open-source, NordVPN notes that its core VPN infrastructure, authentication, and backend systems remain proprietary.
