Instagram Stories get new generative AI features to “restyle” your photos and videos
Meta has introduced advanced photo and video restyling to Instagram Stories, powered by Meta AI. Users can choose a photo or video for their story, tap the restyle icon, and access a variety of presets or make custom edits. These tools allow for both subtle and dramatic changes, using generative AI to remove unwanted background elements or to add and change objects in images and short videos.
Users can select from preset effects such as “sunglasses”, “biker jacket”, or stylistic changes like watercolor and film noir. These can be applied with a single tap, and users have the option to describe additional edits after applying a preset. The new restyle features enable quick transformation for everything from changing hair color, to adding balloons for celebration posts, or adjusting entire backgrounds with creative prompts.
While enhancing creative expression, Instagram Stories now also makes use of “Add Yours” stickers. These stickers make it easy for friends to reuse your restyle edits, encouraging viral or collaborative trends. Tapping the sticker on a restyled image lets other users select a photo from their own library, apply the preset, and share it in their stories.
