Google is ending support for Gmailify and POP in Gmail starting January 2026
Google has announced that Gmail will stop supporting Gmailify and Post Office Protocol (POP) starting in January 2026. Gmailify is a feature that lets users apply Gmail capabilities, such as spam filtering and inbox organization, to third-party email accounts connected through Gmail. Once support ends, those who relied on the POP protocol, which downloads messages at intervals set by the user, will need to switch to other options, like IMAP.
Following this announcement, users will still be able to access and manage email from external providers in the Gmail app by using the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP). IMAP continues to be supported in Gmail and allows real-time syncing without the limitations of POP. Users can keep reading and sending messages from linked external accounts in the Gmail mobile app using IMAP connections.
For current users, it is relevant to note that only future email synchronization will be affected by these changes. Any messages already downloaded and synced to a Gmail account will remain accessible, and previously configured external accounts can still be used through IMAP.
