Google is bringing Gemini's Nano Banana to NotebookLM's Video Overviews and Google Lens
Google has announced a substantial update to Video Overviews in NotebookLM, now allowing users to turn their notes and documents into narrated videos with greater visual flexibility. Central to this enhancement is the integration of Gemini’s Nano Banana image generation model, which provides users with expanded options for how Video Overviews look and feel.
Building on these improvements, Nano Banana generates contextual illustrations derived from user-uploaded sources. This addition means that Video Overviews not only narrate document content, but also support better comprehension and memory retention through relevant, automatically generated visuals. In tandem, the platform introduces six new visual styles for videos: Watercolor, Papercraft, Anime, Whiteboard, Retro Print, and Heritage.
Alongside the new image features, NotebookLM now delivers two video formats to suit different user needs. The Explainer format offers a structured, comprehensive overview for in-depth learning, while the new Brief format provides a concise video focused on rapidly conveying a document’s core ideas.
While these Video Overviews launch for Pro users in all supported languages this week, a staged rollout to all users is planned for the coming weeks. Additionally, Google has also announced that Gemini's Nano Banana is also coming to Google Search and Google Lens, with Google Photos coming soon.
