Chat app Revolt rebrands to Stoat, keeps all services, features, and core values unchanged

Revolt, the open source chat service positioned as a privacy-focused alternative to Discord, has rebranded to Stoat following a cease and desist notice regarding its former name. Despite this legal-driven change, Stoat assures users that all core services remain uninterrupted. Servers, messages, friends lists, and custom emojis are still available as before, and all communities remain on the same platform.

While the rebranding brings a new name, users do not need to take any action. Logins operate as usual, and community features function without disruption. The upcoming visual identity will feature a mascot inspired by the stoat, an animal known for quickness and cleverness, representing Stoat's intended personality.

Building on this rebranding, Stoat reiterates its commitment to a user-driven platform with no executives or shareholders, maintaining its original ethos. The developers emphasize that only the name and visuals are changing, with all user content and technical features preserved in full.

In my opinion, still the most similar alternative to Discord, but feels still a bit unfinished. I hope they will do what they say and put more time into the project. :)

I'm on the platform, I believe they mention Revolt.tv.

Korbs, no, they didn't say anything about the issuer, revolt.tv is at most a "suspect". They won't announce the actual entity because it can cause unnecessary hate and (quote) "hurt negotiations".
