Blackmagic Camera 3.1 for Android adds open gate shooting, function buttons & Samsung LUTs

Blackmagic Design has released version 3.1 of the Blackmagic Camera app for Android, making professional filmmaking features available to mobile users. The update allows filmmakers to select different aspect ratios and enables open gate shooting on compatible smartphones and tablets, offering greater versatility for creative projects.

Alongside these camera upgrades, the new version lets users assign function buttons to actions such as choosing audio sources, toggling false color, enabling zebra overlays, and starting live-streaming. These shortcuts streamline on-set operation and improve efficiency during recording sessions.

Building on these functional improvements, version 3.1 now includes Samsung Log calibrated lookup tables (LUTs) for users with supported Samsung devices, providing more accurate color grading options. For those working with remote setups, HDMI monitoring has been enhanced to show which remote camera is currently selected, aiding multi-camera management.
