Owncast 0.2 launches with spec-first API design, profanity filter, and other enhancements

Owncast has launched version 0.2 of its live video and web chat server, which is both free and open source. This update primarily focuses on foundational changes to prepare for future developments, alongside a series of bug fixes and minor quality-of-life improvements. Notable features in this release include a modal state for browser notifications when denied, the adoption of a spec-first API design, and the option to disable the inbound chat message rate limiter. Additionally, a slur/profanity filter has been introduced to the chat, and a persistent HTTP connection flag has been added from the transcoder to the internal video receiver service.

The update also includes standalone repositories for managing users and configuration values, enhancing the modularity of the system. The programming language Go has been updated to version 1.22, and admin password hashing has been implemented for improved security. Numerous other minor enhancements and bug fixes are also part of this release, further refining the platform's functionality.
