Debian 12.9 released with a focus on stability, security, and compatibility updates

The Debian Project has released Debian 12.9, marking the eighth update to the Debian 12 “Bookworm” series. This release is powered by the Linux kernel 6.1 LTS and focuses on stability and security improvements. It includes 72 bug fixes across various packages and 38 security updates.

To ensure compatibility with Thunderbird 128, several related packages such as allow-html-temp, eas4tbsync, mailmindr, quicktext, and tbsync have been updated. The release also incorporates security updates for major packages like Thunderbird, Guix, Chromium, Firefox ESR, Symfony, PHP, and Ceph, addressing previously identified vulnerabilities. Debian 12.9 does not introduce new features but concentrates on resolving existing issues.

Installation images are available for a range of hardware architectures, including 64-bit (amd64), 32-bit (i386), PowerPC 64-bit Little Endian (ppc64el), IBM System z (s390x), MIPS 64-bit Little Endian (mips64el), MIPS 32-bit Little Endian (mipsel), MIPS, Armel, ARMhf, and AArch64 (arm64). Live images are also available for 64-bit systems, preinstalled with KDE Plasma 5.27.5 LTS, GNOME 43.9, Xfce 4.18, Cinnamon 5.6.8, MATE 1.26.0, LXQt 1.2.0, and LXDE 0.10.1 desktop environments.
