rTorrent 0.10 released after 5-year hiatus with major performance and stability upgrades

After a 5-year hiatus, the open source text-based BitTorrent client rTorrent has released a new version, 0.10.0, which brings several improvements to the underlying library libtorrent and rTorrent itself. Main developer Jari Sundell resumed active development thanks to third-party sponsorship and changes in his personal life. Recent pull requests have brought significant performance improvements, including enhanced throughput and reduced CPU usage. The update also addresses a torrent client crash with the socket address object and introduces support for 33 gigabit speed throttles on ruTorrent.

Key fixes in this version include resolving a torrent client stack overflow crash with the lockfile buffer and adding a new trackers.delay_scrape command in .rtorrent.rc to prevent crashes with thousands of torrents, enabling instant startups. The update also includes a fix for compiling the software with LTO (Link Time Optimizations) for additional performance, a critical memory leak fix with RPC commands, and a solution for torrent client breakage during power outages or failures during session saving intervals.
