Privacy-focused messaging platform Snikket releases a significant server update

Snikket, the privacy-focused messaging platform, has rolled out a new release of its self-hosted server software. This core component of the Snikket project enables users to run their own personal messaging servers.

The latest update enhances invitation management, allowing admins to attach custom notes to invitations and specify roles for new users joining via invitation links. It also introduces the ability to share invitation links through other apps, contingent on web browser support.

In response to user feedback, Snikket has refined its blocking feature. Previously, blocked users received a delivery error, revealing their blocked status. The update now ensures no delivery error is sent. Additionally, admins can now adjust the port for the STUN/TURN server and use International Domain Names (IDNs) with Unicode characters for their self-hosted instances.

Various under-the-hood improvements, including updates to Prosody, the open-source project powering Snikket’s chat connections, further enhance the platform's performance and stability.
