Disney+ follows Netflix with password sharing crackdown, and it's expensive

The Disney+ password sharing crackdown has officially commenced. As of this week, the costs for adding an extra member to your subscription have been revealed. Users will need to pay $6.99/month for the ad-supported Basic plan or $9.99/month for the Premium ad-free plan to add someone outside their household.

This pricing is over 80% of the cost of a new Basic subscription, likely encouraging many to opt for a new account instead. The extra member add-on will be available starting this week in the US, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe, the UK, and the Asia-Pacific region. Only one extra member slot is allowed per account, and the add-on is not available for Disney Bundle subscribers or those billed through partners.

For those outside your household, signing up for their own subscription remains an option. Account holders can transfer an eligible profile to a new subscription or extra member, preserving the profile’s watch history and settings. This move follows Netflix's password sharing changes from May 2023 but comes at a higher cost.
