HandBrake 1.8.2 arrives with bug fixes, improved stability and support for FFmpeg 7.0.2
HandBrake 1.8.2 has been officially released with various bugs across Linux, macOS, and Windows platforms. They include resolving incorrect filenames for encoded files on Linux when using the queue feature, enhancing software stability by fixing potential crashes from scanning deleted files, and addressing issues with dropped audio tracks and broken video clips using reserved color matrix values. For Windows users, the update corrects the auto name feature not triggering with preset changes, prevents potential crashes when importing presets from macOS, and resolves issues with loading presets when a video encode isn’t available. Additionally, the update improves startup performance on certain Intel-based systems.
The release also includes updated support for FFmpeg 7.0.2 for video decoding and filters, libvpx 1.14.1 for VP8 and VP9 encoding, and libass 0.17.3 for subtitles.
The new version follows HandBrake 1.8.1 by one and a half months, which resolved issues with the x265 encoder, DVD subtitles, and video artifacts, and made changes to hardware decoding and auto-naming on Windows.
