Firefox 129 sets HTTPS as default protocol, improves Reader View and Tab Hover Preview
Mozilla has launched Firefox 129, bringing notable enhancements aimed at user customization and browsing security. A key change is the default protocol shift for non-local sites, with Firefox now prioritizing HTTPS over HTTP for improved security.
The update also enhances Firefox's Reader View with a redesigned "Text and layout" menu, offering options for character spacing, word spacing, and text alignment to improve accessibility. Additionally, a new "Theme" menu provides more customization options for text, background, and link colors.
Other notable features in Firefox 129 include a tab preview function that appears when hovering over background tabs, making it easier for users to find their desired tabs. The update also supports the resolution of HTTPS DNS records using the operating system's DNS resolver on Linux, Android 10 or later, and Windows 11. The Network Blocking feature now supports blocking HTTP requests and responses, and the address autofill feature has been expanded to users in France and Germany. The new version also includes support for multiple languages in documents spoken in macOS VoiceOver, among other developer-focused enhancements.
