Proton launches self-custodial wallet for sending & receiving Bitcoin easily and securely

Proton has just launched Proton Wallet, a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet designed to give users full control over their digital assets. This self-custodial wallet leverages end-to-end encryption, ensuring Proton never has access to your Bitcoin, even during transactions. Unlike centralized Bitcoin exchanges, Proton Wallet does not pool user funds, keeping your Bitcoin exclusively under your control with a unique recovery seed phrase.

Proton Wallet simplifies Bitcoin transactions, allowing users to send and receive Bitcoin using just an email address if both parties have Proton Wallets. This feature is particularly convenient for existing Proton Mail users, who can now receive Bitcoin directly via their email addresses.

While Proton hints at future support for fiat currencies, this capability is currently unavailable due to the need for a Swiss banking license. Additionally, Proton Wallet offers integrations to facilitate Bitcoin purchases in over 150 countries. As Proton continues to evolve, the types of assets supported by Proton Wallet may expand based on community feedback.

Proton Wallet is a self-custody wallet that employs end-to-end encryption, ensuring exclusive access to your wallet's encryption keys. This security-focused approach guarantees that only you can manage and control your digital assets. Top alternatives to Proton Wallet include Electrum, Exodus, and Strike.me, each offering unique features for cryptocurrency management.

I love Proton as a company and love their commit to expanding their products. However, it would take quite a bit for me to leave some of the other long-standing, reliable self-custodial wallets. Keep going, Proton.
