Google's goo.gl shortened links will stop working after August 2025

Google has announced the final phase of deprecating the Google URL Shortener. Initially announced in 2018, the transition to Firebase Dynamic Links is now culminating in the complete shutdown of the service. Effective August 25, 2025, URLs in the format https://goo.gl/ will cease to function, impacting developers who utilize these shortened links.

Beginning August 23, 2024, a percentage of goo.gl links will start displaying an interstitial page notifying users of the upcoming discontinuation before redirecting to the target page. This interstitial page will gradually appear on more links over time, providing a means to track and update affected URLs ahead of the shutdown date.
