Audacity 3.6 launches with master effects, a new compressor and limiter, and FFmpeg 7

Audacity, the widely-used audio editing and recording software, has just launched version 3.6, introducing several new features and enhancements. One of the key updates is the addition of master effects, which allow users to apply effects across the entire project simultaneously.

The new version also includes an updated compressor and limiter, replacing the previous versions. These effects now come with a gain reduction history when used in real-time, and offer factory presets suitable for various use cases, accessible through the Presets & Settings button.

Audacity 3.6 boasts new and improved dark and light themes, which can be switched via Preferences Interface. The previous theme is retained as the Classic theme, and older themes can be optionally installed as custom themes.

Performance improvements have made Audacity significantly faster, especially on larger projects and screens. Additionally, the latest version adds support for FFmpeg 7, broadening its compatibility with various audio formats.
