VLC 3.0.21 released with new AMD VQ Enhancer filter and improved Opus ambisonic support

VLC Media Player has rolled out version 3.0.21, bringing a host of new features and improvements. This update enhances Opus ambisonic support and resolves issues with ASS subtitle rendering, Opus in MP4 behavior, and VAAPI hardware decoding with certain drivers. Notable additions include the AMD VQ Enhancer filter and a D3D11 option for NVIDIA TrueHDR, enabling HDR generation from SDR sources.

The new version also supports HTTP content range handling per RFC 9110 and addresses HLS Adaptive Streaming issues in audio-only mode. Super Resolution scaling with AMD GPUs is now available, along with improved subtitle rendering on Apple platforms, particularly for Asian languages. The D3D11 HDR option can now toggle HDR for all sources, independent of the display.

Additional fixes include resolving a regression on macOS that caused crashes with audio devices having more than nine channels and ensuring UPnP directory URL schemes comply with RFC 3986. VLC 3.0.21 integrates FFmpeg 4.4.4, dav1d 1.4.2, and libvpx 1.14.1, addressing various warnings, leaks, potential crashes, and a security integer overflow in the MMS module.
