Apple adds RCS support to Messages in iOS 18 beta, enhancing iPhone-Android communication
Apple has introduced support for Rich Communication Services (RCS) in its Messages app, starting with the second developer beta of iOS 18. This update enables iPhone users to exchange higher quality photos, videos, audio messages, and larger file sizes with Android users. Additionally, features such as read receipts and real-time typing indicators are now available across both platforms.
Previously, iPhone users could only send SMS or MMS messages to non-Apple devices, limiting the ability to share media and use advanced messaging features. This update bridges that gap, allowing seamless communication between iPhone and Android users via RCS.
RCS messaging can be activated in the Messages section of the Settings app and is enabled by default. Currently, this feature is only available in the United States for users on carriers that support RCS, including T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon.
