NixOS 24.05 “Uakari” released with GNOME 46, KDE Plasma 6.0, and many package updates

NixOS, the Linux distribution based on the Nix package manager, has rolled out its latest version, 24.05 “Uakari”, built on the Linux Kernel 6.6. This update brings GNOME 46 “Kathmandu”, featuring an enhanced Files app and OneDrive support in Online Accounts. KDE Plasma has also been upgraded to version 6.0, introducing new defaults and a refreshed Breeze theme.

The release was a collaborative effort of 2491 contributors, resulting in 47795 commits since the previous version. The Nixpkgs repository saw the addition of 17777 new packages and updates to 16249 existing ones, while 9393 packages were removed to ensure maintainability and security. Bug fixes and security updates for this release will be provided until December 31, 2024.
