Bluesky finally lets you send direct messages, but it's rather limited for now
Bluesky, the decentralized microblogging social platform, has recently introduced the ability to send direct messages (DMs) to other users. This feature, commonplace on most social media platforms, has been eagerly awaited by Bluesky's user base.
The new feature allows for private one-on-one communication directly within the Bluesky app. By default, users can only receive DMs from people they follow. However, this can be adjusted in the settings of the DM interface, allowing users to receive messages from no one, only those they follow, or all Bluesky users. The DM feature also includes options for blocking and muting other users.
The initial version of DMs on Bluesky is somewhat limited, lacking the ability to send images or encrypted messages. However, Bluesky has announced plans for future enhancements, including the ability to send media, to create group conversations, to send encrypted messages, as well as improvements related to anti-harassment and safety.
