The PixelExperience custom Android ROM is shutting down after nearly seven years
In a new development, the development of PixelExperience, a custom Android ROM based on AOSP, has been halted. This ROM was known for bringing Google apps and Pixel-specific features such as launcher, wallpapers, icons, fonts, and boot animation to a variety of Android devices from manufacturers like Xiaomi, Samsung, and OnePlus.
The announcement came from José Henrique, the founder of the PixelExperience project, in a blog post titled “Everything has to come to an end, sometime…”. He stated, “The project was created by me in 2017, in a completely different scenario from what we live in today. Today, after almost 6 years, I made the difficult decision to end development.”
Henrique did not provide any specific reasons or explanations for discontinuing the PixelExperience project. Despite the cessation of development, he confirmed that the PixelExperience website will remain operational. This means users can still access and download older builds of the ROM.
