Firefox 125 brings AV1 support, URL paste suggestion, and text highlighting in PDFs

Mozilla has unveiled Firefox 125, the latest version of its open source web browser, featuring a range of updates. Among these is support for the AV1 codec for Encrypted Media Extensions (EME), which facilitates improved playback quality from video streaming providers. The Firefox PDF viewer has been updated to support text highlighting.

The new Firefox View now shows pinned tabs in the Open tabs section, and tab indicators have been added for easier navigation. These indicators highlight tabs that are playing media, tabs with notifications, bookmarks, and more, allowing users to quickly mute or unmute across windows.

To streamline online shopping, Firefox will now prompt users in the US and Canada to save their addresses after submitting an address form, enabling future autofill of stored address information. The browser has also increased its security measures, more proactively blocking downloads from potentially untrustworthy URLs.

The URL Paste Suggestion feature has been introduced, providing users with a quick and convenient way to visit URLs copied to the clipboard. Users of tab-specific Container add-ons can now search the Address Bar for tabs open in different containers. Firefox 125 also offers the option to enable Web Proxy Auto-Discovery (WPAD) while using system proxy settings.

For developers, the option to disable the Pause Debugger Overlay has been reintroduced in Firefox 125. A new drop-down menu button for Source Map related actions has also been added to the Debugger panel.

Firefox for Android now recognizes theme selection (Dark, Light, Follow Device) on Custom Tabs, and has made improvements to the “Logins and Passwords” settings menu. On iOS, a new feature has been added that populates user and password fields for saved logins, making the login process more efficient.

Firefox 125 also includes various minor changes, enhancements, and security fixes.
