Audacity 3.5 brings cloud-saving, tempo detection, non-destructive pitch change, and more
Audacity, the well-known audio recording and editing software, has unveiled its 3.5 version, incorporating several new features and improvements. This latest update introduces a cloud-saving feature, allowing users to save their projects on audio.com. This functionality facilitates working from any device, sharing and collaborating, as well as restoring previous versions.
In the new release, Audacity now offers automatic tempo detection for imported loops. This feature, which can be turned off in the preferences, utilizes both audio analysis and metadata checking to adjust the tempo accordingly.
The 3.5 version also includes a non-destructive pitch change option. By holding Alt and pressing the Up and Down arrow keys, users can alter the pitch of a clip. This can also be achieved through the overflow menu under “Pitch and speed…”.
In addition, Audacity 3.5 now allows the export of labels as subtitle files, adds an option to bypass plugin scanning, and introduces an overflow menu, along with speed and pitch indicators for clips.
The latest version has also undergone various modifications to several features and has eliminated some niche features to streamline the app. This simplification aims to make Audacity less daunting for users and accelerates future development by reducing the number of elements to be considered.

For those unfamiliar, one of the coolest plugins for Audacity is Intel's AI plugin: https://github.com/intel/openvino-plugins-ai-audacity
I wonder which "niche features" have been eliminated. Probably something actually useful.... I get tired of good software constantly being dumbed down. I'll try it, but version 3.4.2 sure does annoy the crap out of me compared to the last version I had installed. Maybe it'll actually be an improvement this time.
