Valve open sources all Steam Audio SDK source code under Apache 2.0 license
Valve has recently announced the release of the complete source code of the Steam Audio SDK as open source with the latest update of Steam Audio. The company's objective is to offer developers more control, leading to enhanced user experiences and potential valuable contributions to the broader developer community using Steam Audio.
This decision was prompted by Valve receiving significant feedback and contributions from the community on the already open-sourced plugins (Unity, Unreal, and FMOD Studio). The company aims to extend these benefits to the core SDK, enabling developers to customize the SDK to meet their specific requirements and deliver superior experiences to all who use the technology.
The complete Steam Audio codebase, inclusive of the SDK and all plugins, is now available under the Apache 2.0 license. This allows developers to use Steam Audio in commercial products, and to modify or redistribute it under their own licensing terms without the obligation to include source code.
