Mesa 24.0 launches with faster AMD RADV ray-tracing, new PowerVR Vulkan driver, and more
Mesa, the renowned 3D graphics library, has launched its 24.0 version, bringing with it a host of enhancements and new features. The update includes a new PowerVR Vulkan driver for Imagination's GPU and significant improvements to the NVIDIA Vulkan driver NVK.
The AMD Vulkan driver RADV also received upgrades, notably in the area of ray-tracing performance. Microsoft's OpenGL driver D3D12 has achieved OpenGL 4.6 support, representing a significant milestone.
However, the project team has cautioned that those prioritizing stability and reliability may want to stick with an earlier release or wait for Mesa 24.0.1.
Mesa 24.0 has implemented the Vulkan 1.3 API. It's important to note that the version reported by the apiVersion property of the VkPhysicalDeviceProperties struct is contingent on the specific driver in use.
In addition to these highlights, Mesa 24.0 encompasses numerous new features and extensions, as well as a range of improvements and bug fixes that are details in the release notes.
