Hulu joins Netflix and Disney+ in prohibiting password sharing outside of your household
Hulu, the well-known streaming service, has revised its Terms of Service (ToS) to explicitly prohibit password sharing outside of a user's “primary personal residence”. The new policy will be enforced from March 14th, 2024, and follows similar moves by Netflix and Disney+ in May and September 2023 respectively.
According to Hulu's updated ToS, “Unless otherwise permitted by your Service Tier, you may not share your subscription outside of your household. “Household” means the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein.”
The ToS further states that “We may, in our sole discretion, analyze the use of your account to determine compliance with this Agreement. If we determine, in our sole discretion, that you have violated this Agreement, we may limit or terminate access to the Service and/or take any other steps as permitted by this Agreement”.
However, the method Hulu will use to measure compliance or the speed with which it will act is not specified in the ToS. The ToS does mention that additional information on the account sharing policy can be found at the Hulu Help Center, but no such help articles are currently available.
