News Explorer 2.0 released with smart folders, article inspector, comments, notes and more

Betamagic has launched News Explorer 2.0, enhancing its news reading app with iCloud synchronization. The update introduces customizable sidebar filters, or Smart folders, which sync across devices. A new Inspector panel, accessible via a button on the article viewer, features tabs for Metadata, Media, Notes, and Comments. Comments are automatically downloaded if the article supports a comment feed, public comment API, or Open Web comments.

Users can add rich text notes linked to highlighted text, visible and editable in the Notes tab. Article tags are now part of the sync process. News Explorer offers iCloud or local 'On My Mac' storage options, with a new 'Local iCloud sync modus' setting to optimize sync by assigning Server and Client modes.

The update also improves feed settings, introduces new themes, and supports auto dark mode switching. It includes a split view on iPad, link opening in new windows, customizable toolbars, and various enhancements across iPhone, iPad, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS.
