Kdenlive 24.12 released with ASS subtitle support, new effects, and improved stability

Kdenlive has released version 24.12 of its video editing software, emphasizing improvements in bug fixes, stability, and usability. A significant addition in this version is the support for Advanced SubStation Alpha (ASS) subtitles, a versatile text-based format known for its styling capabilities. The update introduces a new subtitle manager, divided into four sections: Files, Layers and Content, Style, and Info, along with a powerful Subtitle Style Editor for detailed customization, including animated subtitles.

The update also refines the Speech to Text features, enhancing the installation process, GPU translation, and threading for a smoother experience. Kdenlive 24.12 includes built-in effects and a redesigned effects interface, with improved rendering for keyframe types and fixes for various effects-related issues like rotoscoping lag and shape filter rendering.

The Effect Stack has been redesigned for better usability, offering clearer organization and layout consistency. The new effects panel provides direct access to effect parameters for quick adjustments. Additionally, two new color correction effects, HSL Primaries and HSL Range, along with GPS Effects, have been introduced.

Numerous crashes and glitches have been resolved, addressing problems with audio capture, effect zones, high DPI display rendering, and subtitle editing. Notably, this version has dropped support for Qt5, now requiring Qt6, and includes updated dependencies.
