Kali Linux 2024.4 brings Linux kernel 6.11, GNOME 47, Python 3.12, and new hacking tools
Kali Linux has released its final update for the year, version 2024.4, of its Debian-based distribution focused on information security tasks. This update is built on the Linux 6.11 kernel and supports Xfce 4.18 and GNOME 47 desktop environments. A significant change in this release is the inclusion of Python 3.12 as the default version, which now disallows installing third-party packages via pip by default, recommending pipx instead.
The 2024.4 release marks the end of support for i386 kernel and images, phasing out 32-bit x86 CPUs. Additionally, the latest OpenSSH version 9.8p1 in this release deprecates DSA keys, requiring users to use the ssh1 command for connecting to older SSH servers. Raspberry Pi users can now apply customizations directly through the Raspberry Pi Imager software.
Kali Linux continues to expand its security toolset with the addition of fourteen new tools in this release. Additionally, Kali NetHunter, the penetration testing platform for Android devices, also receives significant enhancements and expanded device support in this update.
