Threads is testing the ability for users to choose their preferred default feed

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that Threads will now let users select their preferred default feed upon opening the app. Users can choose between the For You feed, the Following feed, or any custom feed they have set up. This update follows the introduction of custom feeds, which allow users to curate content around specific topics or user profiles. This feature positions Threads as a competitor to Bluesky, a decentralized social network known for enabling users to create custom algorithms, feeds, and lists, and that has gotten a lot of traction since the US election.

As part of the ongoing test, Meta plans to enhance feed visibility within the app. Details regarding the number of users included in the test or the timeline for the feature's official rollout remain undisclosed. For those in the test, setting a default feed involves opening the Threads app, tapping and holding on any feed at the top, selecting “Edit feeds,” and reordering them. The feed placed in the first slot will appear by default when opening Threads.
