Calibre 7.21 introduces a new audio overlay feature with sentence tracking for EPUB files

Calibre has launched version 7.21 of its popular ebook management software, introducing several new features and improvements. Notably, this release includes a tool for creating an audio overlay in EPUB files, enabling users to listen to the text with sentence tracking using the read aloud facility. This feature does not require a functioning text-to-speech system in the reading software, and allows for assigning different voices to various text parts for an enhanced experience.

Other enhancements in Calibre 7.21 include improved contrast in dark mode, an option to prevent the rendered cover of the first page in EPUB files, and new context menu actions. Users can now download a cover by right-clicking it and open the book's folder from the formats list context menu. The update also addresses minor enhancements and bug fixes, contributing to overall software stability and performance.
